The filing period to be on the May ballot as either a City of Jefferson Alderman, City of Jefferson Mayor, or Jefferson Independent School District School Board Member is now open through February 14, 2020.

City Alderman positions available in this election include one position in each City Ward. Current positions open include Ward 1 (incumbent Jim Finstrom), Ward 2 (incumbent Shawn Humphrey), and Ward 3 (incumbent Kay McKinnon). As of this posting, no incumbent has filed for a re-election.

So far, retired Jefferson Chief of Police Gary Amburn and former Marion County Republican Party Chair Jamey Parsons have both filed for the Ward 2 Alderman position.

The City of Jefferson’s Mayor’s office is also up for grabs in May. As of today, incumbent Mayor Charles “Bubba” Haggard, has not filed for re-election.

JISD School Board elections are also open for filing. Only incumbent Kevin Godfrey has filed to be on the JISD School Board ballot as of this time.

All applications must be filed by February 14, 2020.

The general election is May 2, 2020.

Applications for absentee voting, also called Ballot by Mail, can also be requested at this time from either the County Clerk Vickie Smith, City Secretary (Hines), or JISD Elections Officer (Cox). The last day an application for absentee voting must be received (not postmarked) is February 21, 2020.

Profiles on all candidates will be requested and posted as they become available.
