According to the City of Jefferson, the US Postal Service (USPS) lost the May water bills the city mailed out over a week ago. The issue came to the City’s attention after numerous phone calls from water subscribers asking where their bills were.
Water bills are mailed during the last week of the month and are normally due on the 10th of the following month, but, due to the problem, late fees and shutoff notices for non-payment will not occur in May.
City Water Clerk Teri Taylor Thompson said she will be reprinting bills on Thursday and getting them back in the mail as soon as possible.
Residents are encouraged to pay their water bill as soon as they can, however.
