Comments, Regardless of Slant, Will not be Removed

EDITORIAL. THIS IS MY OPINION. THIS IS MY VIEW. IT IS NOT A NEWS STORY.

For the record, I’ve chosen not to edit, hide, mute, delete, or ban anyone or their comments on the posts about the protests. Granted I’m ashamed of many of them just by reading them. But I’m not going to hide hem from view because they differ from my own.

Right, wrong, or indifferent, everyone is entitled to their opinion and has the right to express it. Whether or not I agree. That’s democracy.

Some of the comments are, in my opinion, racist. And I’m saddened by seeing those making those comments. I believe in my heart some of those folks don’t mean it the way it sounds, maybe I’m wrong, but I want to hope.

Let’s use this to start a dialogue and make all our lives better.

I hope we all take the time to read what our neighbors say and respect that they have their own opinions – even if it differs from our own. Hopefully it will bring us together and not move us further apart.

Jefferson is a community. We need to act like a community and respect each other and each other’s beliefs. This was shown this morning at the dedication service for the synagogue. There were Baptist’s, Methodists, Episcopalian, Catholics, and Jewish all worshipping and fellowship it together.

Portions of our community are not represented well in local government. This is true for all races and neighborhoods.

Equality and Justice should be primary and the same for everyone. Regardless of income, color, age, or social status. It’s hard to do. But it can and must be done.

I’m proud of the people who came out today. I know with better communication, the crowd could have easily been double.

I have few examples of individuals who would not agree to sit down, listen and discuss issues so that a reasonable solution can be found and implemented. But it does take an effort. Those that won’t, I am polite with, but chose to limit my interactions.

Remember, we all live here. The vast majority want to work together to make everyone’s lives better.
Coca Cola had a slogan/song in the 70s and 80s and we need to be the example today and make it happen:

“Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.”

Remember, we are Marion County and we can be the example to make change and do it in a positive way for everyone.

  1. This editorial was 10 different shades of awesome! To be at the dedication and see people of all different denominations, and races, worshiping the ONE GOD, who created us all, was awesome. We are glad to be here in Jefferson, and Marion County.
