Lack of a quorum caused a delay in hiring Jefferson’s next Chief of Police last night, so Mayor Pro Tem Victor Perot pushed the decision out another week.
“I thought we were going to have a quorum at the start of the 72 hours,” said Perot. “We’re going to put off the regular meeting until next Tuesday so we can post to our website the call in info for Zoom.”
Two council members, Jim Finstrom and David Westbrook, were unable to attend last nights meeting for different reasons, and as there are currently two vacancies on Council (Mayor and Ward 2, Position 1), a quorum of 4 members present could not be obtained. Both Finstrom and Westbrook were present via zoom connection, but, as the teleconference ability had not been posted as part of the meeting, the council was unable to meet and conduct business.
Next Tuesday’s special called meeting at 5:30 p.m., will be a hybrid meeting with both in-person members and members attending via Zoom teleconference, should allow the necessary members to be present.
Council did conduct the budget workshop portion of the meeting. That is covered under a separate story.
