Marion County Judge Leward LaFleur issued a Disaster Declaration Wednesday morning in advance of the arrival of Hurricane Laura’s arrival to the area.

Judge LaFleur went live at 2 p.m. Wednesday to discuss the declaration and encourage residents to prepare and not take any unnecessary risks.

“As with all hurricanes things change pretty fast, but it looks like it’s changing for the better for Marion County,” said LaFleur. “The issues we’re going to have here is the wind and flash flooding rainfall and river flooding.”

The declaration also activates the Marion County Emergency Management Plan. The declaration remains in effect for seven days unless renewed by the Marion County Commissioners Court.

Judge LaFleur also wanted to remind residents that sandbags are available from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office if needed.
