The 12u ETX Prospects softball team, of Jefferson, took top honors in the September 6GG Tournament at Cargill Park in Shreveport last week.
They were one of seven teams that competed in the two-day tourney.
They competed against teams from as far as Tyler to Northwest Louisiana.
They continued to defeat and advance to the Championship game against the Louisiana Patriots Sunday evening.
The win included an in the-park home run by Emma Galey, a double play by Karley Long and numerous caught drives by Maddie Cooner.
The quick fielding by all players resulted in a 7-2 victory. Chloe Wood and Long shared the pitching duties throughout the weekend.
These girls have played with each other off and on the past several years, but have come back together in the past month to continue their growth as a strong solid team in preparation for high school in just a few years.
This was their first tournament win as their new team, and coaches say it definitely won’t be their last.
Future tournament dates include Oct. 10 in Longview, Oct. 24 in Carthage, Nov. 7 in Henderson and Nov. 15 in Longview.
The Prospects are coached by Jason Cooner, Michael Wood and Shelby Simmons.
