Texas Tech University’s Office of Continuing & Professional Education is bringing the globally recognized WSET wine certificate courses to East Texas for the first time.

The course will be held at the Jeffersonian Institute where the Texas Tech office of Professional Education & Academic Advising is located. Two courses will be available over the weekend of November 13th through the 15th using the curriculum from the prestigious Wine & Spirit Education Trust out of London England (W.S.E.T). These certificate courses are globally recognized, and are part Texas Tech’s nationally recognized viticulture program.

“Jefferson is a natural location to host this educational opportunity for its debut in East Texas with several wineries and over 20 B&B’s that are located here” said program coordinator B. W. Brooks. “This course is very popular with wine enthusiasts and is a well-known milestone for those who participate in Wine tourism.” he added.

The level 1 Award is for wine consumers looking for challenging wine classes and wanting to know more about the main grape varieties and food and wine matching. The foundation wine education class will introduce them to the main styles of wine available, wine storage and service and the matching of food and wine. It is also a great course for students beginning their first job in wine related businesses.

The Level 2 Award in Wines provides training in wine production, wine tasting, wine service, and the wines of the world to underpin job skills for those in the food & beverage, wine wholesale & retail and hospitality industry,as well as wine enthusiasts who wish to acquire more in-depth knowledge.

The course covers a range of topics including wine service & storage, wine tasting, wine production, and the local wines of France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Hungary, the USA, Chile, Argentina, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia.

The course includes a study manual, lectures, guided tastings, and the exam.

Upon passing the exam students will receive a certificate and pin to recognize their achievement from the Prestigious Wine & Spirit Education Trust.
