Marion County Commissioners appointed Jefferson Mayor Rob Baker as the Marion County representative on the East Texas Council of Governments during Monday’s regular meeting. Baker is replacing long-time representative Victor Perot. Perot lost his City Alderman re-election bid last week, thus making him in-eligible to serve on ETCOG.

“I think that Rob will bring a lot to the table for the City of Jefferson and the County of Marion,” said Marion County Judge Leward LaFleur.

Commissioners also held a moment of silence at the beginning of their meeting in honor of former Commissioner Eugene Robinson and former Jefferson Mayor Bob Avery, both of which recently passed.

The County has received approximately $3,000 in donations for the Rededication Ceremony for the newly restored Courthouse. The Ceremony is scheduled from 8a-2p on May 22.

Precinct 3 Commissioner Ralph Meisenheimer requested declaring a Ford 555 backhoe as surplus and offering it up for bid via AuctioneerExpress.

Gooding. Moving Solutions was approved to move the Marion County Tax Assessor/Collector’s office from Austin street to their new location at 119 W. Lafayette Street for a cost of $4,700. The TAC will be moving next week and their offices will be closed until May 24.

Commissioners will meet again at 9a on May 28.

After the meeting, Gaye Beard introduced herself to Commissioners. She is the Constituent Services Representative for newly elected 4th District of Texas US Congressman Pat Fallon.
