Graduation to Gym

JISD High School Principal Michael Walker notified the Jimplecute Wednesday afternoon that the 2021 Graduation ceremonies are being moved to the High School Gymnasium due to the chance of rain and the amount of water on the football field. Seating availability will be reduced and the ceremonies are being live streamed by the Jimpecute/Marion County Herald on their FaceBook and  YouTube pages.

Jeffersonian Ashleigh Ayers is trying to get on the cover of Maxim Magazine and needs your help. She’s got a week to finish up in the top spot in an online voting poll.

More RR Crossing Work, Street
Closures

According to Mayor Rob Baker, the following streets/intersections with the railroad will be closed this week.

• Friday May 21 from 6:30 am until 4 pm – Watson Street  crossing 

• Monday, May 24 from 6:30a until 4p – Tx Hwy 49 crossing at US 59

According to TxDOT, Traffic will officially be detoured on a signed route on US 59 and SH 155 through Linden and Avinger. Local motorists may want to find other more convenient detours. Portable message boards will be placed near the railroad crossing beforehand to warn motorists of the scheduled road closure.  The construction schedule and road closure can change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen problems.

Tax Office
Reopens at New Location

The Marion County Tax Assessor/Collector’s Office reopens on Monday at their new location, 119 W. Lafayette Street.

“We will still be unpacking, but we’ll be open for business,” said TAC Karen Jones. “Just be patient with us and I feel certain everyone will enjoy our new offices.”

Texas Tech Offes Free Coding Class

Texas Tech University in Jefferson is offering a Free Coding Prep two-week course this summer. 

The course is designed to help students “understand more about what they can go into with Cyber Security, Full  Stack Web Development, or Software Engineering,” said Program Coordinator B.W. Brooks. “This is a great course to determine what you want to go into, and everyone should take this course.”

Start dates for the course are June 1, June 15, July 6, and July 20.

 Memorial Day
Celebration at SouthSide Chapel

Everyone is invited the Memorial Day Celebration luncheon and program honoring military active duty and veterans at SouthSide Chapel in Ore City. The program starts at 2 p.m. and will include special patriotic music and guest speakers. You are invited and encouraged to share your military experience or family memory!

Prior to the program, a barbeque luncheon will be served from 12:30 to 1:45. Veterans and Active Duty Military and Spouses dine free as our thanks for their service. Cost is $9/plate that includes brisket or sausage, bread, beans, potatoe salad, dessert and beverage. 

SouthSide Chapel is located at 1949 Pops Landing Road, 4 miles east of Hwy. 259 in Ore City, off Hwy 450.
