JEDCO hears community ideas

The Jefferson Economic Development Corporation (JEDCO) took no action during Tuesday nights regular monthly meeting, but heard presentations by Bob Thomas and Robin Moore on potential activities.

Thomas presented an informal request to the board for a commitment to funding for historical photo signs to be placed around town. Thomas said he and his wife Pam, first saw the signs several years ago on a trip to Washington-on-the-Brazos.

The signs have a photograph or drawing of what a particular area looked like in the past etched onto glass or Plexiglass so viewers can look through them and see where buildings, etc., once stood.

Thomas’ proposal was to create up to six signs around town for a cost of about $30,000. He wanted commitment for funding once the project is up and going.

JEDCO president Bubba Haggard requested the board put the item on the next agenda for a decision.

Moore briefly discussed the Texas Rural Leadership Program with JEDCO, calling it a preliminary program to use with the Strategic Plan program she’s spearheaded.

JEDCO also opted to put this on a future agenda.

Bank Depository information has been completed with First National Bank and all board members are now current with information on file with the bank, according to board treasurer Doug Thompson. At last month’s meeting there were several members who had not completed the appropriate paperwork with the bank.

The board adjourned into Executive Session to discuss “Potential New Business Projects/Opportunities including Potential Acquisition of Property” but no action was taken after the session ended.

JEDCO meets on the second Tuesday of each month
