There were pumpkins and prizes last weekend at Cypress Bend Adventist Elementary School’s Fall Fest. The event took place in the school’s gymnasium and a variety of food and game carnival booths. The festival had to be canceled last year due to the pandemic. However last Sunday night, the annual fundraiser enjoyed a large turnout of people eager to support the school while having a good time.
The proceeds of the festival go to several different school-related causes. Each booth was set up and manned by volunteer groups consisting of faculty, students, and community members. The money raised by each booth goes towards its specific cause like classroom improvements, individual class funds, and field trips.
Balloon darts, a football throw, and bean bag tosses were among some of the most popular booths of the night. After winning candy and stuffed animal prizes, people could sample the many different food booths. A few of the meal options were nachos, veggie burgers, ice cream sundaes, and dessert waffles. Other activities included the chance to win hand-crafted door prizes and a game to guess how much candy was in a large jar.
The festival not only serves its purpose of being a profitable fundraiser but is also a way for students and their families to be directly involved with the school. Leaders of the Home and School committee, Carolyn Capps and Jo Ellen Taylor, were responsible for the organization of the fall fest. Capps expressed that one of the main reasons she continues to plan the school’s fall festival every year is because of how much it means to her grandson, who is a student at Cypress Bend.
