The Jefferson Lady Bulldog basketball team is off to great start of their 2021-22 season. 

After an initial loss in the season opener with a narrow 57-56 final against Hooks, the Lady Dawgs have rallied back to a 6-2 season record going into the Thanksgiving break. 

The loss to Hooks came on November 9 at home. 

Da’Navia Thomas led the Bulldog attack with 22 points, three rebounds, two assists and four steals. 

TJ Hood had 13 points, four rebounds, one assist and three steals. 

Jordyn Davidson pitched in seven points, one rebound and one steal. 

Jaida Bray offered five points and two rebounds. 

Kristen Thomas also chipped in five points— along with 10 rebounds and one steal. 

Iyanna Barnett and Akilah Brasher each scored two points a piece. 

Amirie Pryor pitched in on defense with four rebounds, one assist and two steals. 

“It was a great team effort and we showed some qualities we have been missing, such as working hard for the entire game,” head coach Jeff Welch said about this teams’ season opener. “This team has the capabilities to be a solid playoff team. Now we just have to go out and get it done.” 

Up Against Daingerfield

The Lady Dawgs bounced back on November 12 with a 67-37 win over Daingerfield on the road.

Da’Navia led the way, once again, with 22 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals. 

Hood was close behind with 21 points, six rebounds, two steals and one block. 

Kristen offered eight points, 10 rebounds and two steals. 

Davidson had seven points, nine rebounds, five assists and six steals. 

Bray had four points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal. 

Pryor and Barnett each scored two points and Brasher had one point. 

Topping Queen City

The Lady Dawgs extended their record to 2-1 on November 16 with a 47-31 road win over Queen City. 

Da’Navia maintained her 20+ point game average by scoring 22 in this matchup. 

She also offered three rebounds, one assist and four steals. 

She was followed by Hood with 12 points, two rebounds, one assist, three steals and three blocks. 

Kristen had seven points, eight rebounds and three steals. 

Davidson chipped in four points and Bray offered two. 

New Diana Tournament Play

The Lady Dawgs picked up there second loss of the year with a 59-40 final to Mt. Vernon on November 19 in the New Diana Tournament. 

The Lady Tigers held Da’Navia to 13 points in that affair. 

Kristen had 11. Bray scored six. 

Hood had five points.

Davidson offered four and Pryor scored one point. 

It was smooth sailing, otherwise, in tournament play. 

The Lady Dawgs topped Harmony 61-31; Pine Tree 35-26 and Avinger 53-42.

New Diana Makes Lady Dawgs 6th Win

Jefferson found their 6th win of the season at home on Tuesday with a 47-29 final over New Diana. 

Da’Navia scored 19 points. She also pitched in one rebound and four steals. 

Davidson was close behind with 14 points, seven rebounds, two assists and six steals. 

Hood scored 10 points and Bray scored four. 

The Lady Dawgs have the rest of the week off for Thanksgiving. 

They will be back in action on Tuesday, November 30 at home against Atlanta. They will then remain home the following week, Tuesday, December 7, against Beckville.
