Council mulls handbook, ordinance changes

The Jefferson City Council met in special session Tuesday night primarily to discuss changes to City Ordinances and the Employee Handbook.

The hour long meeting saw Council deciding to distribute copies of Chapter 18 Buildings and Regulations to all members, and to discuss Chapters 1-6 of the Employee Handbook at their April meeting.

Council indicated they will initially focus on the issues currently being seen with building permit requests. Specifically, setbacks, reworking the permit request packet, fees, and the identification of professionals who are willing to serve as inspectors as needed.

Employee Handbook wise, Council indicated they will start with the first six chapters, but they want to receive employee feedback before making any changes.

In other business, Council reappointed George Otstott as the City of Jefferson’s representative to the NETMWD Board of Directors for the next two years. Otstott has been the City and County’s representative for the last several years.

Council also approved renewing a contract with MuniServices for sales tax compliance and HOT audit and administration. MuniServices has renamed their division which handles these services Avenu Services, and indicated next year’s contract would reflect the new name, etc.

Ben Bode’s home on Friou Street received approval to be construted, even though it is nearing completion. Council brought up that they need to streamline this process so area contractors stop bringing permit requests to them after construction has started.

Shirley Latham was allowed to place a 22ft Rockwood trailer on the vacant lot next to 111 S Friou Street while she is building on the adjacent lot.

Council tabled changing the deposit to $150 to establish city water services while additional information and procedures are found from surrounding cities.
