“Take me out to the ballgame…” takes on special meaning at Saturday as the Jefferson Dixie Youth Baseball and Softball Association holds opening ceremonies at Kellyville park.
The introduction of teams and players kicks it all off at 10 a.m. and is followed by the opening games at 11 a.m.
Team group photos will start being taken at 8:30 a.m. and continue every 15 minutes.
The day’s activities also include door prizes, a raffle, a bounce house, sno cones, food truck and the ever popular concessions.
An Opening Day Home Run Derby will also be held this year starting at 12:30 p.m. Entry is $5 and includes 6 pitches. There are both 8-10U and 12-15U divisions and awards will be given out for one boy and one girl in each division.
The Game Schedule for the day is:
• Rampage vs Xplosion (TBall) at 11 a.m.
• 10U Baseball Jefferson vs Harleton at 11 a.m.
• Xplosion vs Dogers (TBall) at Noon
• Dodgers vs Rampage (Tball) at 1 p.m.
• 12U Baseball Jefferson vs Ore City at 2:30p.m.
• Xplosion vs Texas Tornadoes of Linden (TBall) at 4 p.m.
• 8U Baseball Jefferson vs Hughes Springs at 4 p.m.
• Jefferson 12U vs Jefferson 14U at 4:30 p.m.
• Rampage vs Texas Tornadoes of Linden (TBall) at 5 p.m.
12U Boys have already started their season with a 2nd place finish in a tournament last weekend.
The Association hopes to finish out replacing the fencing on the fields through an online fundraiser available at https://bit.ly/36I3bJ8. Their goal is $5,000.
