Marion County Chamber of Commerce and MCDCSCO sponsored a candidate forum for local elective offices, Tuesday, April 5 at the Community Center. MCDCSCO Interim President Mary Spearmon moderated. 

More than fifty potential voters attended. Concerns expressed included county roads and stray animals.   

Mayor Rob Baker and Judge Leward J. LeFleur addressed constituents and encouraged citizens to contact their Aldermen/women and Commissioners directly to share their concerns and suggestions, and to attend regular meetings. 

Candidates Michelle Fox Davis and Hollis Shadden are competing to serve their Jefferson constituents in Ward One. Incumbent Jamey Parsons faces Jefferson native Will Thomas for Ward Two. April Taylor Johnson and India Stanberry are seeking to serve in Ward Three. 

School board candidate Kirsten Johnson attended and is seeking JISD Place Two. She is facing Jason Conner, who was absent. JISD President and incumbent Jason Bonner is running unopposed in Place One and Joey Romano is seeking to fill Place Three. Neither attended. 

Incumbents Mayor Baker and Judge LeFleur run unopposed.

City Council meets twice monthly, first and third Tuesdays, 5:30 P.M. and 6:30 P.M.  County Commissioners meet first and third Mondays, 9 A.M.    

City Council and Jefferson ISD elections are May 7. Early voting begins April 25.
