Museum Notes: Upcoming Events

Quarterly Lecture Series

Our next Quarterly Lecture Series presentation will be “Growing Up Jefferson” by John Taylor. John, a native Jeffersonian, will be telling stories about being a child in our wonderful city. It will be held Thursday, May 19, 2022 in the Moseley Gallery on the 2nd floor of the museum. Don’t forget that we now have a ramp and an elevator, which makes access available for everyone.

A wine & cheese reception will begin at 6:00 PM; the program begins at 6:30 PM, and a book signing will follow.

11th Civil War Symposium

Go ahead and mark your calendars for the 11th Annual Civil War Symposium presented by the Jefferson Historical Society & Museum. As in past years, it will be held at the Jefferson Convention Center and will feature four speakers with fascinating topics on the Red River Campaign of the Civil War. We’ll be having it on Saturday, August 6, 2022.
We’ll be sending out more information in the next month, so watch your email!

Sitting Up With the Dead: Victorian Mourning and Funeral Traditions

This is a fundraising event for the museum, and it promises to be eerily entertaining! When a death occurred in the olden days, the family would stop the clocks in the house, cover the mirrors, and turn family photographs to the wall. Why? Well, you’ll hear all about these traditions and more in this very special program. Tickets are required, and the event is open to the public on October 14 and 15, 2022. A special presentation at a discounted price will be available to Museum members on Thursday, October 13. Seating is limited, and tickets are required, so watch for more information coming soon!
