Melancon makes up stuff

Glenn Melancon in his latest op-ed states that Republicans hate America.  They hate America so much, that he stated the following took place at the recent Republican Convention in Houston.

“At their convention, they directed Republican officials to prepare for secession. They want a referendum “for the people of Texas to determine whether or not the State of Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation.”

The Committee Reports are all available for anyone to see at https://texasgop.org/2022-state-convention/.  I encourage all Marion County residents to check them out for yourself.  Melancon is referencing item number 224 out of 273 platform planks.

The way that Glenn writes about it, you would think that it was at the top of the list.  As one of the alternate delegates representing Marion County that attended the Convention, I can assure everyone that it was not.

This is what the left does.  They cherry pick one item and try to spin it into some fantastic story, and in Melancon’s case, it’s “Those Republicans hate America!”  Funny how that coincided with the January 6th hearings where we constantly heard more of the same from the left, both on Capitol Hill, and in the liberal media.  This is because it fits an agenda and narrative.

Just like Melancon has an agenda here to paint Republicans as hating America.  I mean, he already called us racists earlier in the year in an article, so this should not be surprising.  This is what the left does, because they have no real answers, and their failed public policy is on full display.  So they have to try and deflect.

If what Melancon states is true, then why would America hating Republicans in Texas bother to pass the following?

Preserving individual, Texan, and American sovereignty and freedom.

Limiting government power to those items enumerated in the United States and Texas

Constitutions.

Under the section “Amendments to the US Constitution” we have the following:

Support term limits of 12 years for federal and state offices.

Oppose “packing” (or enlarging) the United States Supreme Court and supports the

pending “Keep Nine Amendment” as filed in the United States Senate and the House of

Representatives with bipartisan support.

All of these relate to the US Constitution.  Texas Republicans do not hate America in the slightest.  If you ask any Republican around Marion County, they will tell you that they love America.  The number of American flags flying this past July 4th, and on any given day throughout the year all over Texas, speaks against his ridiculous claims.

The fact is, Republicans want our government leaders to reacquaint themselves with the very document that they swore an oath to support and defend.  I think everyone can agree that members of both parties, over decades, have strayed away from the framers original intent of limited government and state sovereignty.

Also, Glenn needs to understand that while the platform is very important, it is the ‘Legislative Priorities’ that Republicans will be focusing on with our elected leaders, and all of which center around rights already enumerated in the US and Texas Constitutions.

What is interesting is that the Democratic Platform still posts on their website ‘rights’ that are not enumerated in the Texas or US Constitutions.  Those posts have a date on them of over 6 years ago since the last update.

Texas Republicans, and Marion County Republicans for that matter, at least love America enough to keep our platform updated regarding the Texas and US Constitutions. Contrast that with Democrats recycling the same tired arguments and use of identity politics to achieve their goals.  The Republican Party of Texas Legislative Priorities are for all Texans and Americans regardless of race, creed, color, or religion.
