It is time to celebrate Diamond Don’s 20th Annual AHRMA National Vintage Motocross Sept. 7-11, 2022 at Diamond Don RV Park & Event Center located one mile from Jefferson, Texas. The weekend will be full of motocross legends racing on old bikes, including several inductees to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame. More than 1000 people attend this annual event from all over the world. It is the largest vintage motocross race in the country.
Here is your chance to visit with and race against some of your idols: Kevin Windham, Blake Wharton, John Short, Barry Higgins, Steve Wise, Brad Lackey, Trampas Parker (local Louisiana boy), Trey Jorski, and Guy Cooper.
Kevin Windham is the 2022 event legend and will be riding an XR200cc “Windham Rocket” during the Bubba Dennis, BA Motorsports sponsored, 200XR Texas Thumper Throwdown racing during intermission on Saturday and Sunday. Kenny Vaughn did the suspension, frame and wheels for the 1981 XR200cc ; and Bubba Dennis built the motor. You will want to see this race, which will also include racing legends Blake Wharton, John Short, Brandon Glenn; Trampas Parker, his son Ricky and brother Heith.
Diamond Don Rainey, event promoter, started racing in 1968. By 1973, Rainey was competing in AMA national events and raced in the first night race at the Houston Astrodome. He retired in his 30’s, but re-started the second round of his racing career in 1996. He pulled his old motorcycles out of the garage and restored them. He races his motorcycles at vintage events around the country. Today, he still builds his own bikes and races in the AHRMA 70+ class on his 1974 Honda Elsinore or a Brad Lackey look-alike 400cc CZ.
Diamond Don and crew will be making this a special 20th anniversary event. On Wednesday, there will be a golf outing to Cypress Hills in Waskom, TX. It will be a four-some scramble and all are welcome. Proceeds will benefit Mission 22, Foundation, which provides support to Veterans and their families through a comprehensive approach of outreach, events, and programs promoting long-term wellness.
On Thursday morning, there will be the 2nd Annual Dual Sport Adventure Ride through the back roads of Piney Woods. All street legal modern dual sport bikes are welcome. Proceeds from this event will benefit Jefferson Adopt-A-Cop to help law enforcement officers in Marion County pay for required equipment that is not paid for by their employer.
And added this year: Jack Thompson Memorial Tiddler Ride on Thursday afternoon. 100cc and 125cc Tiddler Bikes welcome.
