Each year VFW Post 10373 offers students to enter several contests for monetary awards. These students can range from 6th to 12th grade.
This year Zoe Scott’s, recent Jefferson High graduate, portrait received national recognition at the National Patriotic Arts Contest.
Unfortunately, there are no money awards for recognition but each winner does receive a gift certificate for their winning entries.
The Arts contest 1st place entry is worth a fifteen-thousand-dollar scholarship. 2nd place will receive $7500, 3rd receives $3500, both 4th and 5th place receive a $1500 scholarship. 6th place will receive $1000 and 7th through 12th place will receive $500 scholarships each.
In the arts contest there are also entries from youth K-2, 3-5 and 6-8 year students. They are awarded 1-3rd place and all others receive certificate of awards.
Other opportunities are. For youth 6-8th grades the Patriots Pen. Continued a nation wide essay competition giving students the opportunity to write essays expressing their views on an annual patriotic theme “My Pledge to Our Veterans.”

National Winner: $5000
The voice of democracy is offered to students 9-12th grade.
Theme: Why is the Veteran Important
Students compete in writing and reciting an audio essay on the Patriotic theme.
Deadline is October 15th at 5pm
National winner has a $30000 award
