The City of Jefferson agreed to settle their lawsuit against water meter company RG3 during a special meeting last Thursday.

The city has been in a lawsuit with RG3 since shortly after the meters were installed.

The settlement calls for RG3 to pay the city $135,000, provide 25 extra meters immediately, provide priority access to any additional meters the city requires, and extends the warranty for 10 years at no additional cost on all the meters. Currently the city pays a pro-rated warranty. The new warranty provides the city with 10 more years of additional coverage on existing and the additional 25 meters, and then returns to the pro-rated warranty schedule.

They city had amassed over $100,000 in legal fees over the course of the lawsuit at the time of the settlement offer, but according to Mayor Pro Tem Jim Finstrom, there are still some outstanding legal bills which the additional $35,000 will cover.

The settlement is pending approval by the court.
