Burn Ban

Despite the recent rainfall and cooler temperatures, the Burn Ban continues to be in effect across Marion County.

New Owner

Big Cypress Nutrition has a new owner. Tonya Bolt Simmons recently purchased the shop on Vale Street. She says she’ll be posting new store hours soon on their FaceBook page.

CLHRC Meets

The Caddo Lake Historical Research Committee will meet Saturday, October 22, at the Gray/Potter’s Point Community Center at 2 pm for its regular quarterly meeting.

We had a wonderful meeting in July with Rose Mary Magrill and John Fortune discussing and signing copies of their book, ‘The Northeast Corner of Harrison County,Texas.’ As a result, we did not have a business meeting that day. So our October meeting will be a business meeting and also hopefully bringing up ideas and plans for 2023. The address of the Gray/Potter’s Point Community Center is 129 MCR 3636, Gray, Texas 75657. Please come. Refreshments will be served.   

JHS Class  of 1987

35TH Class Reunion will be Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Lake ‘o the Pines Sandy Beach Pavillions. They have the area reserved all day long, so the fun may last longer than 6pm – they just won’t have “plans” for anything after that time. Catered Lunch at 1pm. 

Church Anniversary

Author Visit

The Jefferson Carnegie Library will host Curt Locklear, author of the Asunder Trilogy, at 6p.m. October 27. He is a Civil War historian focused on Trans-Mississippi and Texas, as well as being a banjo picker featured on the PBS show “The Daytriper.” The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

COVID Education

St. Paul United Methodist Church, in partnership with UTTyler Fisch College of Pharmacy, will offer a COVID-19 Education and Awareness event from 3-7p November 3 at the church, Hwy 49 West next to the primary school. Healthcare professionals will be on hand to answer questions about fears or doubts about the vaccines. COVID-19 vaccines, boosters, and Flu vaccines will also be available.

Dual Credit

Parents of 8th graders interested in dual credit in high school (Freshman year): 8th graders interested in taking dual credit in high school their freshman year need to take the TSI ELAR and Math and pass the ELAR in order to register for their first classes. JHS offers multiple opportunities for students to take the TSI. The next TSI at JHS will be administered on November 8. JISD offers TSI each month except January. Mosaic Sanctuary

A life-sized replica of the Mosaic Sanctuary from the Old Testament is coming to Jefferson November 5-13. Tours can be reserved at www.messiahsmansion.com/jefferson.

Barrel Racing

The Jefferson Livestock Association has announced their 2022 Barrel Race Schedule. Leadline begins at 7:30p then Youth, then Open, at the Jefferson rodeo arena, 18362 Hwy 49 East, Jefferson. Leadline/Peewee fee is $15, Youth $20 plus office charge, Open is $25 plus office charge. There is a $100 Added for Open with 80% payout (under 50 riders=3D, 50+ riders = 4D). Exhibition is $3 each or 4 for $10 from 5-7p. Events are scheduled for, November 12, and December 3. For more information Contact Susan at 903-930-8920 or Cathy at 903-824-8536. House Warming

The house warming for, Mary and Sammie Spearman will be at the old homestead on the Lake of the Pines/Lone Star Texas Sunday November 13, 2022 from 12-4pm. All are invited.

UFO Con

The First Texas UFO Con in Jefferson will be held on November 19 at the Jefferson Visitor’s Center. The new event, put on by Craig Woolheater of the Texas Bigfoot Conference, features speakers Mitchel Whitington, Nick Redfern, UFO Jane, Danie Alan Jones, Stephen Miles Lewis, George Jones, and a special Skyfishin’ nighttime event with Joey “UFO Magnet” George. Tickets are available via Eventbrite.com
