Students at JJHS helped support St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital with a student organized and led fundraiser this past month.

“One day I was watching TV and I saw a St. Jude commercial,” said organizer Skyler Lindley. “Then afterwards when I fell asleep I had a dream that my friends and I were hosting a fundraiser.”

Skyler spoke to her friend Morgan Mathews, and they decided to do a bake sale.

“We formed a group that included Janaa Goynes, Aubree Acosta, Skylar Bergman, Lizzie Smith, Emerald Hunter and myself, and approach Principal Phy,” said Skyler. “Mr. Phy gave us permission to have the sale during lunch and we started work.”

The group divided up the tasks and started work.

Lizzie, Morgan and Jana worked on flyers. Lindley and Aubree researched how to donate to St. Jude. Aubree went to Brookshire’s and received a $50 gift card. She spent an additional $30 of her money, along with the card, to purchase the baked goods. Lindley’s mother, who works at VeraBank, assisted the students in reconciling the fundraiser.

Students at JJHS purchased the baked goods including cookies, cake slices, and brownies, during lunch.

Overall the group raised over $200 to donate to St. Jude.

“While this wasn’t a school sponsored event,” said Phy, “the students were allowed to do the fundraiser on campus. I’m very proud of what they accomplished.”
