City Offices Temporarily Relocating

The City of Jefferson offices at City Hall in downtown are temporarily relocating to the Education Classroom at the Jefferson Visitors Center, 305 E Austin Street.

The move is to allow engineers to examine the City Hall building for foundation issues and determine a course of action.

According to Jefferson Mayor Rob Baker, there may be some foundation issues going on at the building and the city wants to be cautious and look out for the safety of its employees and citizens.

“This is a temporary move,” Baker said, “while both the city engineers, SPI, and another engineering firm, are looking at the building and will recommend a course of action. Both the Jefferson VFD and County Judge Leward LaFleur have also been notified. We hope to have the offices back open on Polk Street as soon as possible.”

Telephone numbers and other forms of communication will still be active and residents looking for face-to-face interaction should go to the Transportation building, 305 E. Austin Street, starting Tuesday, January 17. Baker said there may be some down time while the phones are being moved, but residents should be patient, and try again if they are unable to reach anyone by phone.

The offices are currently closed to the public while the move is occurring.

Baker said those wishing to make water and sewer payments should utilize the drop box at 105 N. Polk street until further notice. If a balance is needed, residents should call City Hall and they can be provided a balance due amount.
