Tourism revenue, expenses on track

City of Jefferson

Tourism in Jefferson is “right on track” budget wise, according to Tourism Board President Colleen Taylor.

According to budget reports, the city has received just over 24%, or $49,250.97, of their projected revenue during the first quarter of the fiscal year.

Spending is slightly ahead of budget at 29%, or $23,846.38, but still less than revenue. Taylor noted that several invoices from the November MPI board meeting event had only recently been received and would be in the next updates.

The Board agreed to attend the MPI [Meeting Planners International] Networking Class on January 19, with Pam Thomas attending. The luncheon provides opportunity to meet with meeting planners and promote Jefferson.

The Board also committed to spending $300 plus travel expenses to attend an upcoming Home and Garden Show in Frisco in March. Taylor will be attending and will take with her the Discover Jefferson Visitor’s Guide and the current City Maps to distribute to attendees.

Taylor also reminded members to complete their annual Open Meetings Training and to supply her with a copy of the completed certificate. The City Council requires appointed members to complete the training after every appointment or re-appointment.

An updated rental agreement for the Visitor’s Center will be presented at the next Tourism Board meeting which will include fee increases, according to Taylor.

Lastly, the 1st quarter version of the Discover Jefferson and Marion County visitor’s guide has been distributed. Additional copies are available at the Visitor’s center or via the Jimplecute offices. The guide is the official visitor’s guide for the Tourism Board.

The board will meet again at 5:30p February 13.
