Elections

Friday is the LAST DAY to sign-up for a place on the ballot for Jefferson City Council and Jefferson ISD School Board. HOWEVER, Friday is also a holiday for both the City and the School, SO, there are limited hours to submit your application. JISD offices will be open Friday afternoon from 1-4p. The City of Jefferson will be open from 8a-12:30p, and 3-5p.

Only a few have so far signed up for a place on the ballot. In the City, Jim Finstrom for Ward 1, Robin Moore and Doug Thompson for Ward 3. There is an open seat in Ward 2. For JISD School Board, Leah Cooper and Rusty Mauldin, each are currently unopposed.

New Jail Tech

The Marion County Jail is testing a new system for accessing the Current and released inmate population rosters. You can view this information at https://bit.ly/3xm6Ztc They are in the process of creating a preview photo that will accompany the link.

PAACC Meets

The Pyland African American Cemetery Charter (PAACC) will hold it’s Annual Board of Directors meeting Saturday, February 18, 2023, 11 a.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church.  The Public is welcome. Contact us @ www.thepaacc.org

CLHRC Meets

The Caddo Lake Historical Research Committee will meet Saturday, February 18, at 2 pm at the Gray/Potter’s Point Community Center in Gray, Texas. For the program, Ellen Danielson will present a book report and discussion on the book ‘Love is a Wild Assault’ by Elithe Hamilton Kirkland, a fictionalized biography of Harriet Potter first published in 1959 and reprinted in 1984. Some of you may still have copies. The Community Center is located at 129 MCR 3636 in Gray, Texas, ZIP 75657. Refreshments will be served

Caddo Lake Events

Caddo Lake will be celebrating Black History Month with a hike starting at 1 p.m. on February 18 at the Caddo Forest Trailhead.

The Park will also be hosting a day full of activities on February 25 starting with 8:30 a.m. Coffee with a Ranger at Saw Mill Pond; Art in the Park at 1 p.m. at Saw Mill Pond; and CCC History Hike at 3 p.m. at Caddo Forest Trailhead.

Pancakes

First Methodist Church’s Annual Pancake Supper will be from 5-7p.m. February 20 at the the Fellowship Hall. Donations are Adults $10, children 12 and under $5. Dine in or Take Out.

GriefShare

A GriefShare Support Group will begin from 4-6p.m. February 19 at First Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. For more information, call 903-665-3268.

4H Dinner

The Marion County 4-H and the Marion County Fair is sponsoring a Fried Chicken supper with green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy and sandwich bread for $10 a plate, pickup or dine in, starting at 5p February 23, at the Kellyville Community Center.

Chili Supper

Mims Chapel Methodist Church Women’s annual chili supper will be from 5:30-7p February 24 at the church, 13714 FM 729 Avinger, Texas 75630. This is an annual a fundraiser for this group. Dine in or Take out, the chili comes with all the fixings and dessert. Cost is $10. For more information, contact the church at 903-755-2513.

Paid Pre-K

Jefferson Primary is now enrolling pre-k students for the tuition based program, for the 2023-24 school year. The program is for students, 3 and 4 years of age by September 1. Scholarship

Lone Star Ag Credit is currently accepting scholarship applications from graduating high school seniors in the class of 2023. Six seniors will receive a $2,500 scholarship, and if they are a 4H/FFA member, their club will receive $500. Applications must be postmarked by March 17. The packet is available at https://lonestaragcredit.com/scholarship-application-2023.
