VFW Fish Fry

The Jefferson chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will host their monthly First Saturday Fish Fry this weekend. Set for 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, lunch will include fried fish, fries, coleslaw, beans and a drink— all for a $10 donation.  Dessert will be available for $1.  Lunch can be enjoyed dine-in or carryout from the Post at 1399 US-59, Jefferson.  Are donations are tax deductible and proceeds will benefit the Post. 

Farmers Market

The Mims Community Center 12728 Fm 729 north side of Lake O the Pines, is holding a farmers market every Saturday through spring growing season and early fall every Saturday from 10am to 2pm. $25 to reserve a space for the 2023 season. 

Edible and usable items preferred. Plants for spring gardening will lead off the start of this project with baked goods, fresh eggs and much more. For additional information, call 903-930-5104.

MCDCSCO 

at 20

MCDCSCO will celebrate 20 years of service to the community and recognize its founding members at 2 p.m. April 1 at the Jefferson Community Center. Everyone invited to attend.

Miata Madness

JPS Roundup

The Jefferson Primary School will hold their annual JPS Registration Round Up for Head Start, Pre-K and Kindergarten students from 8:30-5:30 Tuesday, April 4 at the JPS Gym. Documents needed are listed on the schools website. For more information, 903-665-2461, opt. 3

STAAR Night

The Jefferson Elementary School will host a Reading and Math STAAR Night. Come out and support your student by meeting with their teacher and staff.  You’ll be learning even more about the 3rd and 4th grade Reading and Math STAAR tests that are quickly approaching. The class with the most parent participation will win a pizza prty. This is for 3rd and 4th grades only.  The event will be from 5-6:30p Tuesday, April 4 at the Elementary School. Easter Events

The Jimplecute will begin publishing a list of Easter Events in next week’s paper. If your church or organization is holding special services or an event, please let us know so we can add it to the list. The listing is free and will be in March 31 and April 7 editions. Egg Hunt, Sonrise

Lake O’the Pines Baptist Church will have a weekend of family fun and worship Easter weekend. Events will start at 10 a.m. April 8 with a Community Wide Easter Egg Hunt at Hurricane Creek Park with special appearances by Bucky the Easter bunny. 

A Sonrise service will be held at 7a at Johnson Creek Park Amphitheater. It will be followed by 8:30a Breakfast at the LOPBC Campus, Sunday School at 9:30a, and regular services at 10:45 a.m.

Gathering on the Grass

A “Gathering on the Grass” will be happening from 11-?? April 8 beginning at the grassy lot next to Cumberland Presbyterian Church and ending at Lion’s Park. The book of Mark will be read aloud intermixed with singing, and area ministers will be on hand to talk, counsel, and listen. Food and games will also be available during the event. The public is invited to attend.

Bethel Baptist

Homecoming at Bethel Baptist Church will be Easter Sunday. Bethel was organized in 1901, we are excited that we are continuing our services each Sunday. Pastor, Jarred Cowgill,  and members invite you to join us this Homecoming. Sunday School at 10a; Worship Service 11a; followed by Pot Luck Meal in Fellowship Hall and stay for Easter Egg hunt.

Earth Week

Marion County and the City of Jefferson will celebrate Earth Week April 21-30.

The City will have dumpsters available at the Jefferson Community Center (Haywood Street) and near the Police Station (N Alley Street). Staff will be on hand to help unload. 

County Dump locations will be open all week, during regular dump hours and no dump tickets are required.

No locations can take brush, tires, shingles, paint products, batteries, fiberglass boats or oil.

Jefferson Rotary Club will hold an Electronic Recycling Day from 9 a.m.-noon April 22 at the First National Bank parking lot. Help unloading will be available. 

Pastured Poultry

Shady Grove Ranch is offering a Pastured Poultry Workshop – Saturday, April 22 at 9 a.m.. 

A half day training workshop with East Texas Farmer Matt Cadman, who has 13+ years experience raising poultry on pasture using rotational systems here in East Texas.

Wildflowers & Wine Saturday, April 29, in Avinger from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.  Wine-tasting opens 11 a.m., finest Texas wineries, $10 entry provides glass, wine bag. The Mims 2nd Annual Spring Market, sponsored by the VFD Ladies Auxiliary to benefit the Mims VFD & EMS will be from 10a-2p April 29, at the Mims Community Center. There is still time to sign-up to be a vendor, call 903-256-7306..

Shady Grove Ranch is offering their Classic Farm Tour – Saturday, April 29 at 10 a.m. 

Our most popular tour with all sorts of information about regenerative agriculture and how it benefits you the consumer, the livestock we raise, and the environment and food system.

 Learn about pasture-raised chickens, turkeys, eggs, pork, and grass-fed beef during this fun and interactive farm tour. Located at Shady Grove Ranch in Jefferson, Texas. Limited attendance. 

They are also offering “Homeschooler Farm Tour” – Thursday, March 30 at 11 a.m. A hands-on tour designed for kids! Learn all about egg production and processing, and inspect, package, and design your very own carton of fresh eggs to take home! No classroom field trips, please.
