Youth Services Coordinator Sandra Spencer schedules events and activities for children in our community. Any pre-school through third grade child is welcomed to attend a weekly story hour where stories are read and activities are planned related to the story or theme. Story hour is from 10:00-11:00am on Wednesdays. We encourage parents to bring your child to this fun time at the library.  Snacks are provided, as well.

Sandra has built a working relationship with JISD administrators and teachers to support their classroom instruction by providing additional reading resources. Library books are selected, checked out, and delivered to Jefferson Primary school.  Each classroom teacher receives a crate of books.  These book crates are rotated between classrooms before being picked up for return to the library. The cycle is repeated with library books being consistently in classrooms.  Last year over 500 library books were rotated through classrooms.

Books and Bunnies was held this year on March 29th for Jefferson Primary School and again on April 5th for Jefferson community children and local day cares. This yearly event is enjoyed by young children as well as the high school students who come to interact with the children during the activities. Kindergarten students from JISD and preschoolers from Country Day Care and the community are invited. Cookie decorating, completing a coloring activity, and learning the bunny hop along with the JHS student helpers made this a most successful and fun event.

A Summer Reading Program is being offered this summer. The theme for this year is “Caddo Critters”. Each week an animal, fish, bird, etc. living in or around Caddo Lake will be highlighted.  This eight-week program will begin on June 7th and run through July 26th. Children will engage in a variety of activities sure to delight all ages. More information will be provided that includes specific dates and time for this wonderful summer opportunity.
