The Marion Central Appraisal District received their first approval on their 2024 operating budget during the Jefferson City Council meeting on Tuesday.

Commissioners had tabled their vote to get additional information and JISD is scheduled to review the budget next week.

The budget saw a 6% increase over this year according to Chief Appraiser Ann Lummus, mostly due to increases in costs of supplies and other appraisal related items.

Five new cabins will be going up along Big Cypress Bayou near S. Alley street following approval of the building permits from Livewell Enterprises. The cabins are designed for short-term rental.

Mayor Rob Baker asked Aldermen to review a list of Council Projects and come to the June 20 meeting with an idea of the ones they’d like to work on.

Baker also called on Council to come to meetings with a “fresh start and try and fix problems and not attack each other,” he said. “We can be a bit of a shit show that’s sometimes provoked by citizens and sometimes by us.”

Council also approved engaging Denton Navarro Roacha Bernal & Zech, P.C., to provide legal services for the City, initially working with annexation issues, but possibly for other issues as well.

Lastly Council formed a Fire Station Committee to work on needs and costs of a new fire station.
