Heat Alert

Texas Division of Emergency Management wants to remind everyone that summer heat is here and safety precautions should be observed. Remember: Heat-related deaths and illnesses are preventable; never leave people or pets in vehicles; and hydrate before going out into the heat.

Caddo Critters

Jefferson Carnegie Library’s Summer Reading program continues from 10-11a every Wednesday through July 26 at the Library. This year’s theme is Caddo Critters and teaches children about the wildlife of Caddo Lake and Big Cypress Bayou. For more information, contact the library at 903-665-8911.

VBS

Meet the Teacher

JISD will hold “Meet the Teacher” night for the 2023-24 school year at the following times:

  • • JHS, 9th graders 10-11:30a August 7
  • • JHS 10-12th graders: 5-6:30p August 9
  • • JJHS 5-6:30p August 9
  • • JES: 5-6:30p August 10
  • • JPS: 4:30-6p August 10

Students and parents can tour the campus, pick-up schedules and learn expectations. Mr. Brannon will be cooking hotdogs at the high school campus on August 9.

Football

Football is only a few weeks away with the first scrimmage being August 11, and the first home game on August 24 (JV) and August 25 (V). The Jimplecute is again producing the Jefferson Athletic Booster Club Football Program so get your ad in early and support the JABC and Jefferson athletics. Bees

Honeybees are out in full swarm now that summer is almost here. If you have bees, don’t call an exterminator. Instead, call Stanford Brantley at 903-742-2765 and let him help remove and relocate them.

Farmers Market

  • • The Mims Community Center 12728 Fm 729 north side of Lake O the Pines, is pausing their farmers market until the early fall season. For additional information, call 903-930-5104.
  • The Historic Jefferson Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday through the end of October in the First National Bank parking lot in downtown Jefferson.
  • Jefferson Academy Marketplace is now open across from the old Napa store. They have yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, carrots, beans, herbs, and blackberries. All grown at the Academy.

CPR

Jefferson Police Department has partnered with Christus EMS and the Jeffersonian Institute to offer CPR and Stop the Bleed training on September 9. Space is limited to the first 20 registrants.
