It’s been almost 10 years in the making, but early Tuesday morning R&K Distributors made their first delivery of beer to Brushy Landing.

Existing in a part of the county that remained “dry,” shop owner Jeff Ellis said he starting working on changing the status two years after he purchased Brushy Landing.

“I’ve been working on this for almost 10 years,” he said.

To allow alcohol sales on the south side of the lake, voters in JP Pct. 1 had to approve a Local Option to allow it, which they did in May.

Ellis is currently the only store on the south side to offer alcohol sales at this time.

While some finishing touches on the coolers are still being completed, sales were set to begin on Tuesday.

Ellis said he would be offering a full selection of beer “as soon as it gets cooled down.”

“It’s a good thing for Brushy Landing and a good thing for tax revenues for the county,” said Marion County Judge Leward LaFleur.

Brushy Landing, located just across the Lake O’the Pines Ferrell’s Bridge Dam on FM 3001, is open daily from 6a-8p, and 6a-9p Friday’s.
