Jefferson ISD officially cancelled classes tomorrow, Tuesday, January 16, as a result of hazardous weather conditions affecting roadways.

Per the City of Jefferson Employee Handbook, when JISD closes, City offices will close as well.

Marion County Judge Leward LaFleur has also closed all County offices on Tuesday.

Emergency services will still be operating, of course, and if one should experience an emergency – water line break, power lines down, fire, medical – one should contact 9-1-1 and the appropriate emergency responders will be dispatched.

Those utilizing space heaters, or wood burning heating devices should take extra precaution to minimize the risk of fire. Those using Gas, Propane, or Kerosene heaters need to make sure there is proper ventilation to avoid carbon monoxide dangers.

Anyone without heat should move to a friend or relative’s location, if possible, to stay warm as temperatures will stay below freezing until sometime on Wednesday.
