Jefferson will take time to remember the loss of the Mittie Stephens  and take a moment to celebrate the contributions of the Big Cypress Bayou to t he growth and wealth of Jefferson.

Two events will take place on Monday. 

Starting at 2p at the Turning Basin park in downtown, the story of the Mittie Stephens will be told by Mitch Whitington and a bell will be rung for those lost.

Then at 6p at Union Methodist Church on Houston Street, Wes Hamilton and other musicians will provide a free concert featuring music from the Steamboat Era.

Event organizer Hollis Shadden asked the City to declare Monday, February 12 as Mittie Stephens Day, and said he hopes to make this an annual event.
