School Board: New faces join JISD, others retire

Jefferson ISD School Board reorganized officers  during Tuesday night’s regular meeting, selecting Tolesia Davis as President, Jason Bonner as Vice President, and Leah Cooper as Secretary.

A  number of JISD employees are retiring at the end o the school year and were recognized by Superintendent Michael Walker. Those retiring include Karen Collins, Luther Sims, Ann Fugler, Suzanne Cevik, and Kerry Jeffley. 

New faces joining the District this fall were Kenneth Simmons as JHS Teacher/Coach; Leea Longino as JJHS Teacher; Casey Schubert as JES Teacher/Coach; Amber Hitchcock as JHS Teacher; Linda Chambers as JJHS Teacher; Bladen Reaves as JJHS Teacher/Coach; Keely Reaves as JJHS Teacher/Coach; Jimmy Phillips as JJHS Teacher/Coach; and Jessie Biles as JJHS Teacher Coach.

The Board also approved teh resignation of Lora Jackson, Skylar Vaughn, Falon Jones, Denise Hulscher, Stephen Young, Loriel Lloyd, Melissa Coker, and Devin Mathis.

The Board received updates on were provided on various initiatives, such as the District Wellness Plan and contractual obligations with Region VIII to assist with implementation of Eureka Math K-5.

The board also discussed amendments to the District of Innovation Plan, focusing on certifications for teachers and student conduct policies regarding e-cigarettes and vape devices.
