Mark Wayne Brassfield was born in Ranger, Texas on March 25th, 1966, to Earl and Virginia Brassfield. Mark and his siblings were raised solely by their mother, primarily in Seneca, Missouri but the family also spent considerable time in Texas and Mississippi. He attended Racine Christian School for most of his childhood and remained lifelong friends with many in that community.
Outside of church and school, the kids enjoyed a large group of friends and would recount the happy memories of their childhood for the rest of their lives. Swimming in the creek and baseball games were some of their favorite pastimes. Mark and his best friend Doug were said to be inseparable until at the age of 19, Doug was killed in a car accident. Mark would later name his first-born son after his dear friend.
As a young man, Mark traveled the United States extensively, often with his older brother Robbie. Their preferred mode of transportation in those days were matching gold wing motorcycles. The brothers would work together for many years as well building a successful roofing and construction business. Always proud of a job well-done, Mark had the highest professional standards in workmanship and ethics, and NEVER would he be out worked.
Mark married young and had two sons, but the marriage ended after only a few years. In 1991, he would meet the love of his life, Alicia, while visiting Mexico. They would marry and together raised a blended family. Alicia’s children would come to call Mark “Dad” and were loyal to him until the very end. Mark was always loved by kids, whether they called him dad or uncle or grandpa; that was a gift passed down from his mother.
Eventually, Mark would retire from the roofing and construction industry and settle in east Texas, where he used his hard-earned savings to invest in commercial property. He stayed busy and made a number of lasting friendships while maintaining and managing the property for several years up until his passing.
He was cared for by his sister Debbie during his illness. They shared a bond that saw them through joy and heartbreak over the years. Losing their big brother, then caring for their mother had just made them closer. The one constant for them was always each other. They would stay up until all hours playing cards and laughing late into the night. I know Deb will miss him dearly.
Mark was a gifted storyteller, and entertained all those who knew him with stories and tall tales of the places he›d gone and people he›d met through the years. Many of those stories will never be forgotten, but nobody will ever be able to tell them like Mark did. The characters he knew and situations he brought to life just had to be real. Nothing that vivid could have been imagined.
Mark Wayne Brassfield was 58 years old on May 23rd, 2024, when he passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Robbie, and a son, Adolfo. He is survived by his sister, Debbie, and his children, Doug and wife Ramona, Justin, Lilly and husband Armando, Nancy and husband Alfonso, Sandra and husband Daniel, and Amelia and husband William, along with a large number of grandchildren.
