Trail reopens after repairs

Staff Reports

Repairs are now complete on 532 feet of Jefferson’s gravel trails inside Port Jefferson History and Nature Center.

“Contractor Tommy Amox of AA Dirtworks got the bid and did us a good job on the first section of repairs to our trail system, said park manager Gary Endsley. “We couldn’t have done it without the City of Jefferson, especially Alderman Hollis Shadden.”

The entrance to the trails behind the Marion County Courthouse have suffered from erosion since the park was created, making it hard to use. The repairs have focused on that area.

Repairs were delayed for almost two months as the City accepted, and then re-accepted bids for the project so one company could bid. The company being offered the opportunity did not win the bid for the project.

The City has also received a grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife for repairs on the rest of the trails and raised boardwalk, and are waiting on information from the State.
