Jefferson ISD School board discussed a proposal from the Class of 1989 to establish a memorial tree garden in honor of deceased classmates during their regular meeting on Tuesday.
Different locations were discussed, as well as the type of trees to plant. Crepe Myrtles were the preferred option, along with a single plaque identifying the class year and a list of those who had passed instead of a tree for each individual.
The Board indicated it was a good idea, but wanted more details before final approval.
Culinary Arts teacher Terry Moore introduced three culinary arts students, Kayleigh Snead, Ashari Brannon, and Deldran Brown, who presented an overview of the program and it’s impact on their education.
Clint Coyne updated the board on facilities work, including the food service department’s Grandparents Day breakfast at the primary on Monday, and one at the elementary later this week.
Coyne also pointed out roof repairs at JJHS as well as several large HVAC projects are also nearing completion.
Linebarger, Goggan Blair, & Sampson’s Staci Killingsworth introduced Leigh Ballenger, who will be assisting the district during the absence of Patti Wallace’s.
The board will meet again on October 8.
