Concert

The Cumberland Presbyterian Church will also hold a free concert at 4p Saturday featuring Jennifer Campbell and Shirley Latham. They will be performing on the recently donated Steinway piano donated to the church.

Conference

Grace & Truth Church, 31440 Hwy 49, Avinger, will hold their 3rd Annual Bible Conference October 16-19 at the Church. Wed-Fri 6p Snacks and Fellowship, 6:30p Preaching; Sat 9a Preaching, Noon Lunch, 1-2p Q&A. Guest Speakers include Michael James, Frank German, and Gary Standish. Music by Teonna Hall. Fish Fry

First Methodist Church will hold their annual Fish Fry from 5-7p October 18 at the church, 506 S. Line. Plates are available for either dine-in or take out. Adults $12, Children under 12 $6.

Elections

In-Person early voting is set to begin October 21 across Texas. In Marion County, early voting is at the Elections Building on N. Alley Street, and at the Tax Office on Lafayette Street.

Convoy

A convoy of historic military vehicles, the MVPA-HA Jefferson Highway Convoy, will be spending the night in Jefferson on October 22. They are expected to arrive around 3:30p at the Jefferson Visitors and Transportation Center. A parade through downtown will be at 5:30p. The public is invited to attend and view the vehicles and talk with personnel.

Health Fair

Marion County Health & Resource Fair will be held from 10a-1p October 26 at the Smithland VFD, 8247 Hwy 49E. Free lunch is provided. $250 cash drawing sponsored by Texas Farm Bureau, Raffle prizes include 32-in TV. Chili Cook-off

Cypress Place Assisted Living is hosting their Family & Friends Fall Festival from 6-8p October 29. The event will include a Chili Cook-Off Contest. For more information, or to register, contact Cypress Place at 903-665-9855

Veterans Day Breakfast/Brunch 

The Mims VFD Ladies Auxiliary will host a Veterans Day Breakfast/Bruch from 10a-1p on November 9 at the Mims Community Center, 12728 FM 729. Veterans eat free, and others are welcome to make a donation to support the Mims VFD and EMS. 

Christmas Crafts 

The Mims VFD Ladies Auxiliary will hold their annual Christmas Craft Bazaar from 10a-3p at the Mims Community Center, 12728 FM 729, on December 7. There will be a silent auction, bake sale, hot cocoa, light lunch, and lots of handcrafted items. For more information, or to setup a booth, contact 903-256-7306

Gardening 

The “Bloom and Roots” Garden Club invites anyone interested in gardening to come join them. They meet the 2nd Monday of each month. For more information, Contact June Hughes, 903-930-5104.

4-H

The Jefferson 4-H club is up and running and is open for new, or returning members. The youth education programs are sponsored through the Marion County AgriLife Extension office. For more information, or to join, contact Doug Weir at 903-578-7362.

Autumn in Avinger

Avinger will be celebrating Autumn with their annual Autumn in Avinger festival from 10a-5p November 23 at #7 Main Street Education, Avinger. There will be shopping, food through out the day, and bingo starting at 5:30p.

Bible Study

Cumberland Presbyterian Church is hosting a weekly bible study every Wednesday night. The evening starts with a 6p supper, and bible study from 6:30-7:30p led by Shane Shaddix. All are welcome. The group is currently starting Book of Hebrews.
