Meeting has nothing to do with Water Sale

The Jefferson City Council’s Tuesday night special meeting, has nothing to do with the proposed water sale at Lake O’the Pines.

A flyer distributed at last Saturdays “Town Hall” meeting organized by State representative Jay Dean, provided a list of the city council meeting dates for the seven member cities. Above it, the flyer states that the cities would be voting on the water sale at their next meeting.

According to the agenda for Jefferson’s meeting on Feb 11, posted at https://www.jeffersontexas.us/2025/02/notice-special-city-council-meeting-tuesday-february-11-2025-at-630-pm/, agenda items include:

  • City Administrator Comments:
    • Deadline to file an application for a place on the ballot
    • Candidate applications received
    • Drawing for a place on the ballot will be Feb 24, 2025
  • Presentation/Update on City Grants
  • Action Items:
    • a. Discuss, consider and/or approve Order of Election for May 3, 2025;
      • Full Term 2025-2027: One (1) Alderman Ward 1, One (1) Aldermen Ward 2, and One (1) Alderman Ward 3
      • Unexpired Term 2025-2026: One (1) Alderman Ward 2
    • b. Discuss, consider and/or approve 2025 JOINT CONTRACT/AGREEMENT FOR ELECTION SERVICES.
    • c. Discuss, consider and/or approve sub award agreement between the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the City of Jefferson for the Jefferson Recreational Trail(s) Rehabilitation Project: Authorizing the Mayor to sign on behalf of the City and committing the City to a $75,000 match.
    • d. Discuss, consider and/or approve sub award agreement between the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the City of Jefferson for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) DR-4485, Texas Covid-19 Pandemic (Lift Station Generators): Authorizing the Mayor to sign on behalf of the City and committing the City to a $116,266 match.

There is an Executive/Closed Session listed on the agenda, but it is on EVERY agenda the City posts.

According to City Secretary Melissa Boyd, a vote on the proposed water sale at the February 18 meeting has not been proposed. The city has not received a copy of a proposed contract. The deadline to put something on the city’s agenda is this Wednesday.
