Marion County Judge Leward LaFleur is leaving the countywide burn ban in place despite Sunday nights’ rainfall.
“While I’m extremely grateful for last nights rain, there wasn’t enough to justify lifting the ban,” LaFleur said.
The county has gone almost two months without any significant rainfall and remains in the “Severe Drought” category according to NOAA in Shreveport.
There have been several large fires in the last week due to individuals burning.
“Residents need to remain vigilant and extremely careful – even when cooking outdoors,” LaFleur said.
The order does not prohibit outdoor burning activities such as cooking with charcoal grills, as long as they are above ground or enclosed. Fire rings, ground fires, and any open grills at ground level are not allowed.
Violation of the order is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine up to $500.
