Varsity digs for 3rd in Big Sandy tourney

Jefferson volleyball started off their season with a 3rd place win in the Big Sandy tournament last week.

The Lady Dawgs split day 1 with a win over Union Hill (25-12, 25-18) and a loss to Quitman (23-25, 18-25).

Kourtlyn Dowell led with 5 kills and 2 aces against Union Hill. Ava Phillips also had 5 kills, 3 aces, 4 assists and 1 dig, and Brooklyn Clark had 5 digs.

Dowell also dominated against Quitman with 7 kills and 2 aces. Christiana Justice had 2 aces, 2 assists, 6 digs, and 1 kill, while Phillips had 2 kills, 6 assists, and 5 digs.

Day 2 also saw split decisions as the team won against Union Grove (25-17, 23-25, 15-8) but lost to Lone Oak (13-25, 10-25).

Dowell had 8 kills against Union Grove, with Phillips having 5 kills and 2 assists, and NahNah Wallace having 2 kills.

Against Lone Oak, Dowell had 2 kills and Wallace had 1 kill.

But they wrapped up weekend by defeating ETHS (25-29, 21-25, 19-17) to finish 3rd place in the Big Sandy tournament.

Dowell dominated ETHS with 14 kills. Janaa Goynes had 4 digs; Justice had 9 assists; and Phillips had 2 aces, 2 assists, and 4 digs.

The Lady Dawgs will play again Thursday and Saturday, August 22 and 24, in the Gilmer Tournament, and again on Tuesday,  August 27 at Center starting at 4:30p
