Council to Meet Thursday to Consider Hiring City Administrator

City of Jefferson

The Jefferson City Council will hold a special meeting at 5:30p on Thursday at the Transportation Center and will consider hiring one of two candidates as the next City Administrator.

Council has indicated they plan to adjourn into Executive Session for Personnel Matters to review and discuss the final candidates prior to making a decision.

They are also considering approving a waiver of City Ordinance 2-132 for the candidates to allow them to live outside the City Limits. The Ordinance, as it currently stands states: “The city administrator must establish a permanent residence within the city no longer than 90 days following his employment, unless otherwise approved by a majority vote of the city council.” The Jimplecute has learned that one of the candidates currently lives in the Atlanta/Queen City area and does not wish to relocate.

Gene Ponder has a building permit for 200 W. Austin Street which Council will consider. The permit states it will be a two story structure with first level for retail and parking garage, and the second for lodging. The proposed brick and wood structure is 4,400 square feet with wrap around balcony/porches on the Dallas and Austin streets sides. Ponder purchased 10 feet of Dallas Street from the City at the March meeting to install a public sidewalk and balcony. The application includes a request for a waiver of the required 1/2 or 1% of the construction cost.

In the consent agenda, Council will consider denying a rate increase related to CenterPoint Energy’s annual Gas Reliability Infrastructure Program (GRIP).

The Herald/Jimplecute will be live streaming the meeting.
