County OKs airport purchases

Things are looking up at Marion County Airport after Commissioners approved the sale, via auction site, of the older self-service fuel station and the purchase of a lawnmower.

The self-service fuel station was upgraded earlier this budget year, so the older station was declared surplus and will be sold through AuctioneerExpress.com. The lawnmower will be purchased for $9,328, and funded via a budget amendment at a later time. County Auditor Shanna Solomon said the airport had the funds, so there’s no additional monies needed from the County’s funds.

Commissioners continued their dedication to maintaining county buildings by considering a contract with S&W Filter Service to replace all the air filters in the air conditioning systems in county buildings on a set schedule. The bid they received, however, did not include the Kellyville Community Center in the costs.

Commissioner JR Ashley requested the proposal be tabled until the center could be added. The existing proposal was $527 per service, and service would occur every 8 weeks.

Marion County Judge Leward LaFleur said he’d get the proposal updated and back to Commissioners at their next meeting.

The new election equipment now has a permanent storage and transport location as Commissioners approved the purchase of a 6×12 cargo trailer from RJ Trailers in Longview for $4,599.99. According to LaFleur, Kim Wise, in the County Clerk’s office, has been looking for a trailer since the equipment was purchased, but they are in short supply. LaFleur said by the time the county arrived to pickup the trailer, the other two which came in on the same shipment were already sold.

A permanent storage location for the trailer will be determined at a later meeting, but until then, it is being stored at the Courthouse, with security cameras monitoring it.

Precinct 1 & 2 Constables gained approval to purchase two 2019 vehicles from the Texarkana Texas Police Department to the tune of approximately $10,500 each. Currently Pct. 1 has a truck for use, which will be added to the County’s “Motor Pool” for general use. Pct. 2 does not have a vehicle at all.

Pct. 2 Constable Jeff Greer said the vehicles come fully equipped so only stickers and the county’s radio system will need to be installed. He also said they will have less than 70,000 miles on them.

The vehicles will become available to pickup in November.

Letha Northcutt will continue to serve on the Board of Trustees of Community Healthcore through August 31, 2023, after commissioners approved her reappointment to a two year term.
