APL Rescheduled

Animal Protection League has had to cancel their regular monthly visit to Jefferson on Monday due to several employees testing positive for COVID-19.

They hope to return on August 16th.

Texas Master Naturalists Class Planned

The Cypress Basin Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists is beginning a new training class August 20.  The required 40 hours of training is spread over 4 months, one weekend a month (Friday 6-9pm and Saturday 9-5).  Cost is $40 for an individual or $55 for a couple. This is a huge reduction in fees!  Being a Master Naturalist includes volunteering to provide education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and areas in East Texas.  For more information, contact Caroline Hughes at cahughes8@gmail.com.  Deadline to register is August 12.  AND we have a LOT of FUN!

Taste of Jefferson Vendors Needed

The Marion County Chamber of Commerce is seeking participants for their annual Taste of Jefferson event on October 17.

Meet the Teacher Set

JISD has scheduled Meet the Teacher fo rthe 2021-22 school  year.

Jefferson Primary: August 12, 4:30–6 p.m.

Jefferson Elementary:  August 12, 5-6:30 p.m.

Jefferson Junior High: August 12, 5-7 p.m. The Kona Ice Truck is scheduled to be present.

Jefferson High School:  September 8, 5-7 p.m. Parents will be able to pickup the 3 week progress report as well.

Balloon Mini Glow Set

The Hot Air Balloon Mini Glow has been rescheduled for 5:30p.m. August 14 at the Cypress River Airport.

Tickets are $10 per adult and $5 per child under 12. There will also be $20 tethered Balloon Rides. 

The event is sponsored by the Marion County Chamber of Commerce and Jefferson Convention and Tourism Board.

Chamber Seeks Nominations for Golden Nail Awards

The Marion County Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations from it’s members to be presented during their annual Golden Nail Gala at 6 p.m. September 11, 2021, at the Jeffersonian Institute. Tickets are available by contacting the Chamber at 903-665-2672.

The Awards being presented this year are:

• Distinguished Organization: non-profit which has supported economic growth through volunteerism and financial contributions

•   McKay Family Foundation Benefactor: Business or Foundation which has supported economic growth through volunteerism and financial contributions

• Dickson Distinguished Up and Coming Volunteer: individual, 45 or younger, who has supported the non-profit organiations in Marion County

• Marion County Distinguished Volunteer: Any volunteer who has suported the non-profit organizations in Marion County

• Individual Benefactor: Any individual who has supported economic growth in Marin County through volunteerism and financial contributions

• Citizen of the Year: Individual who has demonstrated exemplary service to Jefferson and Marion County through vision, dedicated efforts and financial support

• Business of the Year: Entity which has demonstrated exemplary service to Jefferson and Marion County through vision, dedicated efforts and financial support

All nomination forms must be postmarked by August 15, or turned into the office by August 20.
