After 24 years of public service, Marion County Auditor Shanna Solomon turned in her keys last month.
“It is bittersweet,” Solomom said. “The people I’ve worked with have been great. I have made lifelong friendships along the way.”
Her last day was October 22.
Solomon says she is taking advantage of an opportunity to move back to the private sector that includes being able to work from home.
“My husband works from home,” she said. “So, we are looking forward to spending more time together.”
Her next post will be as a senior accountant with Big Tex Trailers.
The County Auditor position is one that is appointed by the District Judges.
In Solomon’s case, it’s one that has been split between two counties for the past 20 years.
She was first appointed Morris County Auditor 24 years ago by Judge Porter.
Porter’s jurisdiction included Marion County as well. So, when the position opened here, Solomon was invited to cover both offices.
That was two decades ago.
“It’s been a balancing act, that’s for sure,” she said. “It was always a matter of being where I was needed— when I was needed.”
Solomon’s background has always been in accounting. Prior to the public sector, she worked stints at Pilgrim’s Pride and corporate positions in the metroplex.
“I’m sad to leave,” she said. “I cried a river of tears that last day. I love the county. I love my co-workers. It is all very bittersweet. I will forever be grateful to have been entrusted with the auditor duties for these many years. It really is a part of who I am now.”
About her old job, Solomon said, “Calling on accountants— there are some great jobs out there and the auditor’s position is one of them. I would encourage anyone to apply for it. There are some great people there and the work is rewarding.”
