Jefferson’s Opera House Theatre Players (OHTP) are lining up gospel musicians, singers and superlative cooks for their annual Chocolate Sunday fundraiser set for Sunday, Feb. 13, at Christ Episcopal Church in Jefferson.
The “Sweetest Sunday of the year” event is the only fundraiser that the thespian group holds each season to help in their current season of productions.
The entertainment line-up includes the The Gospel Girls— a quintet of singers who specialize in gospel music and have appeared with the Players in years past.
Also on the card is Ann Leslie, of Marshall, who is well-known in the area for singing original songs and old melodies from her vast repertoire.
She appeared with the Players last as during September’s the Pioneer Days Festival in Jefferson.
Johnny Nance, local folk singer and raconteur, will also perform.
The singer and guitarist will offer several famous gospel songs written by the late Stuart Hamblen.
Jen and Lisa, a Shreveport Duo who sing old-time gospel in harmony and 11 year-old keyboardist Riley Cox are also slated to entertain.
Admittance to the event is a suggested donation of $15 per person with children under 10 years of age admitted free.
The performances will begin at 3 p.m. in the church.
Those who wish to enter the chocolate-making competition, can do so at no charge but should fill out an entry blank that will available on the website as well as in the Jimplecute.
Those entries should be brought to the Parish Hall between 1- 2 p.m. where each will be given a number.
Judges will judge the entries between 2-3 p.m. and winners will be announced in the Parish Hall when the audience moves to that location to enjoy a free treat of anything and everything chocolate.
“We have always been so thrilled with the amount of chocolate recipes that show up at our event for all these years,” Theatre board president Marcia Thomas said. “They are not only beautiful but absolutely scrumptious to eat. Most of us cannot wait to see what shows this year so please do not delay your entry blanks; send them in as soon as possible.”
Those who wish only to attend the chocolate consumption are still asked to make the suggested donation at the door.
Those who donate at the church door will be given a wristband for confirmation.
