Marion County celebrates MLK Day

“United We Stand… We’re Still Here” resounded through the evening Monday night at MCDCSCO’s 18th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Holiday Celebration at the Jefferson Community Center.

“We, the members of Marion County Diversified Social and Concern Organization (MCDCSCO) appreciate your time, participation and donations that will allow us to make a difference in some students lives,” said Organization President Mary Spearmon. “The funds that we raise are returned to students in the Jefferson Independent School District. Each. Year we provide Scholarships to member of JISD Seniors. Thank you for helping ‘Our Youth Move Forward’.”

The event featured a spoken tribute to MCDCSCO founder Jessie Mae Walker by Spearmon and music by Mack Guice and Friends from Marshall.

Dr. Fred Bonner II was the keynote speaker of the evening and he focused on working together to achieve a community that not only works together, but belongs to each other, and thus betters the community as a whole.

The event was the primary fundraiser for the MCDCSCO scholarship program.
