Bulldog baseball opens with a win
The Jefferson Bulldog varsity baseball won their season opener Monday against Union Grove with an 11-7 final.
Senior Caden Whatley was named Player of the Game by the Jefferson coaching staff.
The Dawgs set to compete in the Linden-Kildare Tournament this weekend.
The will return home on Tuesday, March 1 to face Linden-Kildare in a regular season bout.
JV will play at 4:30 p.m. Varsity is set for 6:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs will then take to the road late next week to compete in the Elysian Fields Tournament.

Bulldog lifters sweep Sabine meet
The Jefferson High School Boys Powerlifting Team were named Champions of the Sabine Cardinal Powerlifting Meet on Feb. 17.
Six Bulldog lifters came come home with first place medals.
They included Ryan Yeater, Parker Key, Knox Tomlinson, De’Vonta Waites, Bryce Clark and Brandon Rice.
Clark was named “Lifter of the Meet” and “Best Bench” in his weight class with a 355 lb. bench press.
Waites took “Best Squat” honors in his weight class with a 615 lb. squat total.
Parker Key won “Best Dead Lift” in his weight class with a 505 lb. lift.
The Bulldogs will compete in the Regional Powerlifting Meet March 5 in Malakoff on March 5.
Bulldog runners finish strong at Marshall meet
The Jefferson High School Boys’ track team came home from the Maverick Relays Thursday, Feb. 17 with multiple top three finishers.
J. Garrett finished 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles and 3rd place in the 110 meter hurdles.
Kieth Smith finished 3rd in the 200 meter.
Kam Williams finished 3rd in the 100 meter and Luke McMullen finished 5th in the 100 meter.
The Maverick Relays were held in Marshall.
The Bulldogs ran in Winona at the Jack Fry Relays on Thursday.
Result were not available as off press time.
Lady Dawgs top Daingerfield
The Jefferson Lady Bulldog Softball team beat Daingerfield with a narrow 18-17 final at home on Tuesday.
Fe Craver led the Lady Dawg attack with five RBIs.
TK Trammer and Marleigh Mears both had three RBIs
The winning RBI came from Tawny Foster.
The Lady Dawgs will compete in the Linden-Kildare Tournament this weekend before returning home Tuesday to face Arp.
