School Supplies, Starts
JISD is again providing all school supplies for students at all campuses this year, Parents/Guardians are only responsible for backpacks and water bottles. School will start on August 9, at all campuses. Registration opens August 1.
Heat Advisory
Please use caution if you are going to be out in the heat this week. Heat indexes will be between 102 to 109. Please drink plenty of water and find some shade. Also please use sunblock, sunburn can be extremely painful as well as leading to skin cancer.
Boat Races
Lake O’the Pines annual boat races start Friday at noon at Hurricane Creek Recreation Area.
Retiring
Leslie Wood will be retiring from VeraBank this month. There is a reception honoring her from 10a-2p today at VeraBank in Marshall, 2203 Victory Drive.
Meet the Teacher
JISD will hold Meet the Teacher on August 4. The Primary School will be from 4:30-6p; Elementary from 4-5:30p; Junior High from 5-6:30p; and the High School is to be determined.
Hay For Sale
Cathy Cason says a friend from Mississippi will be shipping in loads of hay on 18 wheelers. He was courteous to help us several years ago when the drought killed the hay meadows. He has hay priced from $35 to $40 a roll before shipping. He does have shippers available or can load you if you go to him for pick up. Robert’s number is 601-941-8921. Class of
’57-58
Reunion
Plans for the Jefferson High School class of 1957 reunion have been finalized. The class will meet at the Methodist Church at 10 AM August 6th, looking forward to a day of visiting and “eating”. The class has had a reunion every five years since graduating, this being the 65th year. Also, the classmates meet monthly for lunch. The class of 1958 will join the ‘57 class for their reunion.

Naturalists
Training
The Cypress Basin Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists is beginning a new training class August 19th, 2022. The required 40 hours of training is spread over 4 months, one weekend a month (Friday 6-9pm and Saturday 9-5). Most classes will be held at the Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Karnack. Cost is $40 for an individual or $55 for a couple. Being a Master Naturalist includes volunteering to provide education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and areas in East Texas.
