County calls for November election

Commissioners took all the necessary steps to setup the November 8 general election during Monday’s special meeting.

The election calls for local voting for County Judge, District Clerk, County Clerk, County Treasurer, and Justice of the Peace Pct 1. In Marion County, all the positions are unopposed.

Early voting was established during the meeting from October 24 to November 4 at the Marion County Elections Building, 504 N Alley. Early voting will occur from 8a-5p Monday-Friday only.

Applications for a Ballot by Mail can be sent to Karen Jones, Early Voting Clerk, 119 W. Lafayette, Jefferson, TX 75657, but must be received no later than 5p October 28. 

Election Judges and Alternate Judges were also established for a one year term from September 1, 2022 to August 31, 2023, during the meeting. The Election Judges will be:

• Mims VFD: Hunter Bonner (R) Judge, Sharon Hebert (D) Alternate

• Kellyville Senior Citizen Building: Pearl Coleman (D) Judge, Seth Buckner (R) Alternate

• Marion County Election Building: Kimberly Shaw (R) Judge, Joselyn Jordan (D) Alternate

• Smithland VFD: Mandy Moore (R) Judge, Joyce Justice (D) Alternate

• Lone Oak Baptist Church: Georgianna Stebbins (R) Judge, no alternate was appointed

 Republication substitute judges are Zack Baldwin, Francene Deprez, and Vivian Foster. Democrat substitute judges are Gloria Irving, Jennifer Whelan, and Rebecca Durden.

The Presiding Judge for Early Voting on the November 8 election is Patrecia George with Maxine Flowers as Alternate Judge.

The Presiding Judge for the Central Counting Station is Zack Baldwin and Jennifer Whelan as Alternate Judge.

Following the meeting, Commissioners held a brief Budget Workshop to review any final changes to the proposed budget. The only change they made was to increase the Auto Allowance by $400 for the County Judge, JP Pct 1, JP Pct 2, and all four commissioners. The only other position which receives an auto allowance is the County Extension Agent, which they did not increase.

Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget at 9:15 a.m. August 29 at the Commissioners Courtroom.
