Dawgs shutout Lions in opener

Jefferson football fans had much to cheer about Friday night after the Bulldogs routed the New Boston Lions 43-0 on the road in their season opener. 

New Boston went scoreless on the initial possession of the game. 

Jefferson came out striking and  was able to put seven on the board during their first possession. 

A fumble on the Lion’s next possession gave the ball back to the Bulldogs on the Lion’s 32-yard line.

They built on their initial momentum and road the wave all night.  

Junior running back Kamran Williams led the Jefferson attack with 236 yards rushing on 16 carries. He scored two touchdowns and chipped in a reception. 

Senior Luke McMullen only had two rushes, but two was enough. 

He totaled 116 yards on two carries— both ended in touchdowns. 

He also caught the ball twice for 16 yards receiving and one touchdown. 

Senior EJ Burns had four carries for 37 yards and Jace Lahay carried the ball five times for 39 yards. 

Senior quarterback Chris Bowman went six for 14 with 64 yards passing. 

Senior Kenneth Ross led the Bulldog defense with seven tackles and five assists. 

The win takes Jefferson to 1-0 on the season. 

The Bulldogs stay on the road tonight to face Timpson

The Bears are likewise 1-0 after their  53-22 win over Beckville in their season opener.

With the loss, New Boston moves to 0-1 on the season. 

The Lions host Queen City tonight.

The QC Bulldogs are 1-0 on the year after their 38-28 win over Rivercrest last week.
